The first time I saw it, I almost missed it. The lifeguard tower stood at the edge of the shore, a ghost of color against the sea, sky, and sand. Painted in hues that perfectly mirrored its surroundings, it blended so seamlessly that it felt like a mirage—a structure both there and not, like a forgotten memory etched into the landscape.

It was a quiet morning, the kind where the ocean barely whispers and the wind moves like a secret between the dunes. I lifted my camera, framing the tower against the horizon, marveling at how it seemed to dissolve into the world around it. The blues of its frame melted into the shifting tones of sky and water, while its base, dusted with fine grains of sand, became an extension of the beach itself.

For a moment, I thought about the lifeguards who sat there, their eyes scanning the waves, protecting lives while perched on something nearly invisible. A perfect metaphor, perhaps—watchful guardians who go unnoticed until the moment they are needed.

I pressed the shutter, capturing the illusion before the light changed, before the tide shifted, before the world noticed what was hiding in plain sight.

A lifeguard tower that wasn’t just part of the beach—it was the beach.
